The next less lethal alternative to be presented on this page is a solution that could be idle for self defense at home as well as on the go. A company called First Strike sells high-end paintball equipment which also includes .68 caliber paintball markers (guns). One of their most recent products is the First Strike FSC which is a compact paintball pistol platform. It uses compressed gas to propel rounds down range. The less lethal self defense application utilizing paintball guns comes from the various types of rounds that are available for this purpose. Standard paintball rounds are not meant for self defense purposes but there are a variety of other options for users to load into these paintball markers which will make them effective as less lethal self defense options. Some of these include pepper powder balls which will provide the equivalent effect to pepper spray but with much greater distances than standard pepper spray aerosol cans. Another option is glass breaker rounds which are typically hard nylon filled projectiles meant to penetrate automobile windshields. There are also other less lethal .68 caliber rounds that are rubber coated metal balls that can be deployed through platforms like the FSC. The First Strike FSC is designed to have a smaller, modular grip frame and shorter overall length. The FSC can be powered by 8 gram or 12 gram Co2 cartridges (with use of T8.1/T9.1 Magazine) and HPA and accepts 8.1/9.1 barrels making this one of the most customizable platforms on the market. The FSC accepts many existing T8.1/T9.1 accessories so you can build your platform to help you in various self defense scenarios. Features also include a 20% smaller grip than standard 8.1 pistol. Packages typically ship out with two 6 round magazines included. The FSC also has an under mount rail, Mil-Spec textured grip, and a micro-honed barrel. The company PepperBall sells almost an identical version for law enforcement less lethal application called the TCP. The FSC is the civilian version of this platform. This FSC package retails for around $350.00.
Jiun An Technology Co, LTD is a company known for producing some of today’s most reliable and sophisticated self defense gear as well as gas-powered less lethal projectiles and stun weapons. The company is known for a variety of training gear and corrections equipment for military and law enforcement. Jiun An Technology Co, LTD has just released their new line of .50 caliber pistols called the RAYSUN-92 for less lethal personal protection as a demand for this type of product has risen in recent years. Their new line of .50 caliber assailant stopping pistols fire projectiles such as rubber balls, chemical or pava rounds, as well as powerful impact rounds such as glass breakers at an incredible 400 FPS (feet per second). These less lethal pistol can reach out to 40 feet, much further than ECD units such as a Taser to take on a threat with less lethal force. The pistols are semi-automatic and have a seven round magazine capacity which operates off of one 12oz CO2 canister. The pistol is the size of a regular full-size handgun yet small enough for concealment and the imposing size of the barrel may be enough to deter a threat before the trigger ever has to be pulled. This item comes in blue, red and black.

Our next piece of less lethal tech is as sleek and sexy as it is effective. Tiberius Arms is a manufacturer of high end paintball gear and compact .68 caliber launchers. The former less lethal device known as the SWAT C8 which has been discontinued and the still existing FN P 303 which is marketed as a true less lethal device for law enforcement, was based off of the Tiberius T 8.1 platform. The Tiberius T 8.1 is a semi-automic, 8 round, pistol sized launcher ideal for home defense and personal protection. This unit is sleeker and smaller than it’s competition while still delivering a muzzle velocity of 280 fps(feet per second) at ranges of 30-50 feet with around 25 joules of energy to it’s target. This unit can be customized in several ways including red dot sights, laser sights, and with a “First Strike” conversion kit the unit can accept fin-stabilized projectiles similar to those fired by the FN 303 greatly improving it’s accuracy. This unit is capable of rapid reload with extra magazines each holding a twelve gram C02 cartridge and eight rounds of less lethal ammo, from glass breakers to chemical PAVA/pepper rounds and everything in between. The specs include a solid aluminum upper receiver, dual rubber detents, side dovetailed iron sights, low profile C02 quick puncture, and grooved full length grip for comfort and control. The T 8.1 measures 10.5″ in length and is roughly 2 lbs, so it may not be the best device for concealable carry but when it comes to gas powered launchers it’s still fairly compact. The unit comes in three sexy color variations black, black/silver, and silver. The T 8.1 is designed and produced in the United States so you can count on it’s reliability. *NOTE: ammo choice is crucial when using a .68 cal paintball marker for self defense purposes. While regular paintballs can sting on impact they may not be sufficient enough to stop a determined attacker. For alternative ammo choices see the previous article posted in this category.
This unit’s MSRP is roughly $200.00 and is available at many online retailers.
The First Strike conversion kit is roughly $100.00
Tall structures, wine, and fine art are amongst the things France is known for, but they are also one of the world’s leaders in less lethal technology. SAFEGOM is a .38 caliber revolver that utilizes cylinders which are factory preloaded with less lethal rubber ammunition and is manufactured by Humbert CTTS. The projectile is fired using a standard pyrotechnic charge just like a regular firearm, but due to the safety precautions taken at the factory level this weapon will not fire lethal ammunition. Each replaceable cylinder has six round rubber .38 caliber shots which leave the muzzle at approximately 1,100 FPS (feet per second). The revolver frame is made from a light metal alloy and the unit features a double action firing mechanism which can also be used in single action. There are currently two variations, a short barrel and a magnum. This unit is for sale to civilians in Europe, but I have been unable to locate an American distributer for SAFEGOM. I will keep you posted on further updates regarding this Less Lethal Alternative.
The unit’s MSRP is around 250.00 Euros.
This next bit of less lethal technology comes to us from a German company called RECK INTERNATIONAL who develops sporting goods such as air rifles, paintball markers, as well as self defense products one of which is called the King Cobra. This fearsome snake sits on an intimidating revolver platform and features fix blade sights and a grooved rubber grip for recoil control. The King Cobra features a double loading fire mechanism; first one has to load six 9MM / .380 blank cartridges (so they fire using a pyrotechnic charge) in the revolver cylinder and then muzzle load each 18 MM round rubber projectile every time the gun is fired. The muzzle blast generates 20 joules of force and has an effective distance of five meters. So far I’ve only been able to find European retailers selling this less lethal device, but some of them will ship to the U.S.
I’ve seen this product retailing for around 200 Euros.
A new less lethal solution has just been become available to law enforcement agencies in the United States. A company called Defenzia was just earlier this year cleared by the ATF to started selling and distributing it’s Defenzia M09 unit to law enforcement agencies across the country. The Defenzia M09 is based off the Russian wasp pistol which provides five different functions in one compact package. The Defenzia M09 provides three defensive capabilities as well as two ideal for search and rescue. On the defensive side the Defenzia M09 features a 55 caliber rubber bullet which is deployed with 90 joules of muzzle energy and is accurate up to thirty-five yards. It also offers an ear-deafening and blinding flash-bang round as well as a pepper gel cartridge which has a range of five meters. Additional features include a multicolor flare and a high-intensity high lumen sky candle for search and rescue. The unit it self is a four-shot, semiautomatic device which fires via an electronic trigger and incorporates a laser for better target acquisition. While the technology is new to the United States, the technology it self is not new. It has been deployed in Israel, Europe, and South American markets for over the last fifteen years. Defenzia is planning on releasing a 50 caliber unit for civilian self defense in late 2016 to U.S. markets.
RAM or Real Action Marker is a company that produces high-end paintball markers as well as air guns and air soft guns. We’ve already discussed how traditional .68 cal paintball markers can be applied to self-defense purposes and covered several products from Scarab Arms, Tiberius Arms, Pepperball, and even RAM. We have also gone over that your selection in the gun you choose is just as important as the payload or ammo choice that you go with. This is where RAM’s next item differs from the rest previously discussed in this blog. RAM produces a line of replica hand guns that mimic real function of some real world handguns minus the lethality of them. Amongst the different variants are the RAM X 50 modeled after the Sig Sauer P226, RAM P99 modeled after the Walther PK380, and the RAM COMBAT modeled after the full size Glock 22. All these guns operate on co2 and sport realistic blow-back action( slide kicks back with each shot) and semi-automatic function. Another major note of mention is that these guns shoot a .43 caliber projectile instead of the traditional .68 caliber which is most common for paintball. Since these guns are so realistic in appearance and function and the barrel diameter is so close to a real-life .45 caliber handgun it would be wise to mark the pistol of your choice with a yellow or orange slide so that any law enforcement officer won’t think you are holding a lethal weapon. Yellow and orange are universal colors for less lethal weapons, and even though these RAM handguns don’t come equipped with these color options you can remove the slide and apply the paint job to the outside by yourself. The reason why these handguns don’t come equipped with these color schemes is because they were not intended for self defense. However, with the right choice of .43 ammo these guns can be repurposed for such use. Glass Breaker rounds are projectiles that are fired out of gas operated less lethal devices by law enforcement officer to bust down automobile wind shields in hostage situations. These rounds are very hard to find for people who are regular everyday citizens, however there is one company out there who has made such projectiles available to consumers for self-defense. This company is called Alternate Buy LLC and yes they even manufacture a miniature version of the .68 caliber glass breaker round in a .43 caliber version allowing these RAM Combat Handguns to be used as self-defense tools. These guns have an effective range of roughly 65 feet and can spit out projectiles at speeds between 250 fps to 300 fps. These guns are made out of high quality materials like the real deal and meant to be reliable and work in poor weather conditions, however since they are co2 operated cold weather can affect the power of the shot (co2 works better in hotter environments). Standard pistol holsters will work for carrying and storage and additional 8 shot magazines are available for roughly $40.
UNIT’S MSRP= $190-$350 (depending on model)
