JPX4

A company called Piexon revolutionized the less lethal self-defense market when they released their JPX Jet Defender; a compact two-shot pyrotechnic OC spray launcher. Their technology utilizes a traditional pyrotechnic charge much like a firearm that delivers a payload effectively and accurately up to twenty-three feet. Even though this system uses a pyrotechnic charge it is NOT classified as a firearm by the ATF and thus does not require registration. NOW Piexon has come out with a revamped version of their cutting edge technology called the JPX4 and as the name might suggest this semi-automatic bad-boy packs four shots instead of the classic two shooter. Some key benefits of this less lethal weapon system is that there is no loss of pressure, no shaking of the device prior to use, extended range (23 feet), superior accuracy, no deflection of the OC spray through cross-winds, no batteries to go dead, and less Cross-Contamination. The payload is delivered at a whopping 320 FPS. The new JPX4 comes in two sizes; the standard with a length of 7.57 inches and 5.65 inches tall and the compact version with a length of 7.57 inches and 4.88 inches tall. The standard comes with a built-in laser sight and picatinny MilSpec rail for mounting tactical lights and other accessories. This product is made of high impact resistant polymer in Switzerland.

The “Paper-Weight”

This next less lethal alternative is a classic street fighting and personal defense tool, the brass knuckles. While brass knuckles can be lethal depending on where you strike an attacker (head shots can often lead to death or permanent serious injury), but they can also be used to simply incapacitate an attacker so that you can escape a bad situation. These are a classic because they have existed for hundreds of years in one form or another; made from steel, iron, brass, aluminum, plastic and even wood. The body guards of Abraham Lincoln used to carry brass knuckles and soldiers during WWI carried trench knives with brass knuckles. Brass knuckles work by focusing the striking and punching power of the user into a harder and smaller contact area which often will cause the fracturing of bones upon impact. The classic design incorporates four solid brass rings that are welded together and will loosely fit around the user’s fingers while making a fist. There are various new designs that have come out in recent years that may only cover one or two fingers. While brass knuckles are freely sold in many states there is conflicting information regarding the legality of carrying them in various states.

” In the United States, brass knuckles are not significantly regulated at the federal level, but various state, county and city laws prohibit their purchase and/or possession. Some state laws require purchasers to be 18 or older. Most states have statutes regulating the carrying of weapons, and many specifically prohibit brass knuckles or “metal knuckles.” Where they are legal, brass knuckles can normally be purchased online or at flea markets, swap meets, and at some sword and weapon shops. Some companies manufacture belt buckles or novelty paper weights that function as brass knuckles and are sold “for entertainment purposes only,” a dubious legal standing. ” Source- Wikipedia.org

International laws regarding carry of brass knuckles,

In Canada, brass knuckles, also referred to as “brass monkeys”, or any similar devices, are listed as prohibited weapons; possession of such weapon is a criminal offence under the Criminal Code of Canada. Similar legislation has been instituted in Russia and Australia.

In France, America, and in Italy, brass knuckles are legal, and freely sold to people of legal age (over 18 years old), but carrying them is forbidden. The French term is “poing américain”, which literally means “American fist”.

In Sweden, brass knuckles are legal to purchase and own (for people over 21 years old), but are not legal to sell or carry in public. The carrying of brass knuckles carry the same penalty as carrying a knife, and falls under the same law. They are called “knogjärn”, literally “knuckle iron”.

In Brazil, brass knuckles are legal and freely sold. They are called “Soco Inglês,” which means “English Punch.”

In Russia, brass knuckles are illegal according to Federal Law “On Weapons”. They are called “кастет”, from French “casse-tête”, which means “head-breaker”.

Brass knuckles are illegal in the United Kingdom, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Austria, Croatia, Germany, Belgium, Bosnia and the Netherlands, carrying significant jail sentences and fines for possession of a dangerous weapon.” Source- Wikipedia.org

This classic self-defense tool can be found on many American retail sites and some times sold as “belt buckles” or “paper weights”. Make sure to check your local laws prior to purchase and carrying of this classic self-defense tool.

JPX Jet Protector

One common tool that pops into mind when thinking about a less lethal defensive weapon system is OC spray or pepper spray. There are several manufacturers of this defensive weapon system but none that can really match the JPX Jet Protector by Piexon. The JPX Jet Protector is a new and revolutionary OC delivery system, unlike traditional  OC delivery systems that use compressed gas or air to spray it’s intended targets with the irritant solution, the JPX uses a pyrotechnic charge similar to that of a 9MM. This allows the content of the chamber magazine to be extremely effective in almost any weather conditions. When using traditional OC sprays, it is in one’s best interest to make sure they are not spraying the OC spray against the wind, and in heavy rain conditions the traditional system may prove unreliable. Further more, with the traditional aerosol propellant system one often has to use a “Pray and Spray” technique as many of the traditional systems will lack in the areas of accuracy and reach. This new system offered by Piexon in the JPX offers reliable function in any weather, accuracy due to narrow spray pattern and built in laser sight, significant reach ( up to 23 feet at 270 mph), offers two shots to stop an attacker, and is small enough for easy concealment. Since the OC spray is delivered so fast and with such force it easily penetrates face masks. Since the JPX isn’t classified as a firearm most states will allow you to carry this system without a permit. This system is currently in use by several police agencies across the world, and even though this little beauty isn’t made in the USA, it is still quality manufactured in Switzerland. The frame comes in Black ( recommended for law enforcement), Orange, and military OD Green. The system also has a tactical rail for mounting small accessories in front of the trigger guard. On a personal note I bought this system for my mother, she has never been a fan of traditional firearms, but with this system I can rest knowing she has a reliable self defense tool.

Tiger Light Peace Keeper Mini

In my constant search for amazing new products in the realm of less lethal self defense I managed to find one that I truly believe is like nothing else currently available on the market today. A company called Tiger Light who’s T100 model has previously been reviewed in this blog has developed an amazing personal defense spray system which truly can act as a force multiplier. This product affectionately goes by the acronym D.A.D. which stands for Defense Alert Device. The unit is made of very tough polycarbonate which keeps it light and durable. The D.A.D. also features a multi-mode LED light which includes panic, high, low, strobe and SOS modes. The OC spray is military grade and claims to stop 96% of potential attackers. The unit features a hand strap so that the user can maintain control of it in a high-stress situation, but all these features are dim in comparison to the one thing that makes this item so cool and unique. This device features a force multiplier button, a back up button the user can hit to alert the user’s friends and family of his/her location during a dangerous encounter. The D.A.D. system works alongside a mobile app which the user’s friends and family can download, when the button is pressed the app sends out an alert to all of the user’s nearby friends (within a mile via bluetooth) and all listed friends and family in the D.A.D. contacts list regardless of the distance. The alert which is sent out once the button is pressed will alert the recipients to call 911 and provide directions and location information on their smartphones. This is perfect for just about anyone looking for a less lethal self defense option, great for kids going off to college or abroad.
